Inspired by nature and the bountiful natural elements at Allerton Park, Jane Camp, a Professor of Art at Heartland Community College, is offering Teen Art Studio: From Realism to Abstraction on Saturday September 28th from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Auditorium of the Greenhouse building.

The workshop for young adults will focus on observational drawing in graphite, pen & ink, and charcoal that move into abstractions of nature through collage and the various drawing media.

The workshop is open to budding artists from 13-18 years of age.  All materials are provided, and no previous experience is necessary.

$30/person. Register by September 14.  Space is limited.  All sales are final.

About the Instructor

Jane Camp is an art educator as well as a working and exhibiting artist.  She is a Professor of Art at Heartland Community College and has worked at Heartland since 1994.  She has also taught for Tennessee State University, Illinois State University and Richland Community College.  She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Illinois Wesleyan University and her Master of Science degree and Master of Fine Arts degree from Illinois State University.  Jane’s photographs, drawings and paintings have been exhibited in many local and national exhibitions. She successfully co-operated a photography business, Outer Glow Photography, for 10 years.​

Much of Jane's drawings and paintings focuses on a group called "Random Pages".  Random bits from nature become enlarged and abstracted to suggest something beyond their origins. It is the unknown that can be the most fascinating, the most mysterious. Additionally, photographs created with her medium format Holga film camera encapsulate an ethereal vision, a dominate trait in her art. The photographs are softly captured versions of places traveled. This camera and several other types of cameras are her constant companions wherever she wanders.
